Synopsis :

Film ini adalah berkisah dengan seorang anak viking bernama hiccup yang tinggal di sebuah desa bernama berk. Cerita awal dari film ini bermula saat desa ini diserang oleh sekelompok group naga yang menyerang dan mencuri domba dan sekaligus menghancurkan beberapa bangunan yang ada di lokasi desa tersebut. Para penduduk desa tersebut kemudian mencoba melawan dengan menggunakan senjata dan mengusir naga tersebut.

Cerita kemudian menjadi menarik saat seorang anak hiccup secara tidak sengaja menemukan seekor naga yang cukup langka bernama night fury. Naga dengan bentuk ukuran yang relatif lebih kecil jika dibandingkan dengan ukuran hewan naga pada umumnya ini pada awalnya tidak tertarik dengan hiccup. Tetapi hiccup kemudian berhasil menarik perhatian dari naga langka tersebut dengan memberikan makanan ikan serta pendekatan yang cukup berhasil.

Hiccup mempunyai pemikiran bahwa sesungguhnya naga seharusnya bisa menjadi mitra bagi manusia untuk bisa bekerjasama dengan baik. Pemikiran dari hiccup ini yang membuat penduduk desa berk dengan penduduk bangsa viking tidak menyukainya. Sebab naga selalu menyerang desa tersebut dan mengambil makanan serta merusak bangunan yang ada di daerah lokasi desa berk ini. Tetapi hiccup pada akhir cerita film ini berhasil membuktikan bahwa naga bisa menjadi teman yang baik dan juga menjadi pelindung untuk desa tersebut.

Dengan perhatian yang lebih kepada naga langka tersebut serta pelatihan yang diberikan oleh hiccup membuat naga langka ini menjadi teman yang baik bagi hiccup. Hiccup juga membuat tambahan sayap seperti sirip ekor palsu dari kulit pada bagian ekor naga miliknya agar dapat terbang lebih stabil.
Naga hewan peliharaannya ini kemudian diberi nama toothless. Toothless pada awalnya mengalami kesulitan untuk bisa terbang dengan menggunakan tambahan ekor sirip buatannya. Tetapi hiccup berhasil mencoba membantu naga miliknya agar dapat terbang dengan baik setelah berlatih bersama dengannya. Dari sini perjalanan hiccup dan naga miliknya toothless kemudian dimulai.
